The National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography was founded in 1875 by Luigi Pigorini. The museum is the main Italian centre for the preservation and display of pre-historic and non-European collections. Its main tasks are: archaeological and anthropological research; study, documentation and conservation of the museum’s collections; management of permanent and temporary exhibitions; educational programmes; and training in conservation, museological, archaeological and anthropological fields.
Today, testifying to the new Italian multicultural reality, the Pigorini Museum offers itself as a cultural point of reference and a privileged interlocutor for immigrants and for the ethnic minorities already settled in the country.
