Émile Zola (1840–1902)
NAF 19951
In 1894, the French army officer Alfred Dreyfus was accused of espionage, found guilty, fired and deported. His family, who were fighting to have him pardoned, won over the famous naturalist writer, Émile Zola. In just a few days, Zola wrote an indictment ("J'accuse"), addressed to the President of the French Republic, which was published in l'Aurore.
