Pictured in this cartoon are the King Louis-Philippe and the Head of Government François Guizot. The latter, who in 1848 did not foresee the importance of reform, advised the King to maintain a conservative approach. Since 1847, the opposition to the regime had been getting around the ban on political gatherings by organising banquets. The suppression of one of these banquets triggered the 1848 revolution.
