Portrait of Alexander Karatheodori Pasha. He was born in 1833 in the Greek quarter, Phanar, in Constantinople and served as leading diplomat (Premier Plénipotentiaire) of the Ottoman Empire at the 1878 Congress of Berlin. With the consent of the Ottoman government, Austro-Hungarian troops occupied Bosnia-Herzegovina.
