With an energetic stroke of the brush, Rudolph Konopa shows us an episode from the occupation campaign of the Austro-Hungarian Army in the Ottoman provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1878. Konopa studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and was a co-founder of the Hagenbund in 1900. Konopa received many awards, including the gold medal of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Later during World War I, he became member of the so called k.u.k. Kriegspressequartier (art division of the ministry of War) and worked as a war painter on the eastern and southern fronts.
