James Robertson (1813, London-1888, Yokohama)
Lacan heaps particular praise on the artist's panorama taken from Beyazıt Tower as well as on his photograph of the architectural elements of Galata Tower, the Hagia Sophia, the Mosque of Sultan Ahmed I, and Dolmabahçe Sarayı. Robertson’s Istanbul photographs are concerned primarily with the city’s historical monuments. They reveal the city’s magnificent Byzantine and Ottoman structures from different angles and with close-ups taken in an approach that is usually quite aesthetic.
