La Tunisie Martyre: Ses Revendications (better known by its abbreviated title, La Tunisie Martyre) is a Tunisian book written in French and published in Paris in January 1920, attributed to Abdelaziz Thâalbi (Abdelaziz al-Thalibi). Having arrived in Paris on 10 July 1919, Thâalbi started writing a book by the title Tounes al-Shahida (Tunisia the Martyr). Although the published book does not bear his name, Thâalbi admitted to having written it in Arabic, as can be seen from the reports sent from Tunis by the future leaders of the Destour party. As he was not able to write in French, he asked his friend Ahmed Sakka, a lawyer living in Paris, to translate the book into French. A few months after the publication of La Tunisie Martyre, an arrest warrant was issued for Abdelaziz Thâalbi. He was arrested on 28 July 1920 in Paris, and transferred, by escort, to Tunis, where he was taken to the military prison and charged with jeopardizing national security.
