Western region of the Arab Peninsula
The small stock of clothes and accessories was donated to the Italian King Vittorio Emanuele III by the shaykh Al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali Himmat, who, proclaiming himself in 1917 to be King of Hijaz (the north-western region of the Arabic Peninsula, nowadays part of Saudi Arabia), obtained the international recognition of his title. In the same year, King Vittorio Emanuele III entrusted the gifts he received by the shaykh to the Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico “Luigi Pigorini” in Rome.
