Description:

This Mosque, built in the early 20th century, was dedicated to Khalid ibn al-Walid, the national hero who conquered Syria for Islam in AD 636. Most of the interior consists out of a single large prayer hall, which contains the domed mausoleum of Khalid ibn al-Walid. It shows over 50 battles he victoriously commanded. The mosque exemplifies the Ottoman architectural style; particularly beautiful are the minarets out of white limestone and the opulent décor inside. Since 2011, the mosque has been a focal point for political opponents protesting against the Syrian government and was damaged.
