Description:

Hermann Junker with Egyptian workers excavating a statue from the mastaba of Schepsesptah in 1913. The German-born Egyptologist Hermann Junker became a professor at the University of Vienna in 1909. In 1911 the Austrian Academy obtained the concession for excavation in Giza. In 1912 Hermann Junker's team started to excavate tombs close to the pyramids of Giza.
