Description:

Portrait of Muhammad Tawfiq Pasha (1852–1892). After the deposition of his father Ismail Pasha, Muhammad Tawfiq took over the government in Egypt. The Arabi revolution diminished his power radically. In 1882 he asked for help from Great Britain. British troops suppressed the Arabi revolution and occupied Egypt. Muhammad Tawfiq became ruler at the grace of the British government.
