Hotel Kadri
Zahle, Lebanon
1906
The Kadri Hotel was built in 1906, and has borne witness to much of the violence and turmoil in modern Lebanon. The hotel was taken over by the Ottoman army in 1914, who used it is a headquarters and hospital during World War I. It was later occupied by Syrian troops and sustained enormous damage. It was restored to its former glory following an extensive restoration project in the mid 90s. The hotel was briefly closed between February 2011 and 2013.
Both the interior and exterior of the hotel are excellent examples Zahle's traditional stone architecture. It is one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the city, and is frequently used by officials and dignitaries.
