The living room ceiling at Shangri La was custom-made by Moroccan artisans working under the supervision of the Rabat-based firm S.A.L.A.M. René Martin. It is carved, painted, and gilded throughout. The central field features recessed octagrams in interlocking, knotted niches, predominantly orange and brown in tone. The bottommost border consists of a moulded plaster frieze of floral motifs in an arcade repeated throughout.
