A letter from General Lord Hely Hutchinson, Commander of the British army in Alexandria, Egypt, to the traveller and scientist Edward Daniel Clarke. Clarke is to ensure the security of the Rosetta Stone which he, W.R. Hamilton and Colonel Turner are acquiring from the French army under the terms of the Capitulation of Alexandria. The letter also asks Clarke to copy the inscription from the Stone. It is dated September 13, 1801.
