Description:

This 20 franc bill was first issued in 1783. It is blue and black on the front and blue on the back, and was issued by the Banque d’Algérie, which had the exclusive rights to issue notes in the Beylik of Tunis. The front of the note shows Mercury on the left and Hercules on the right. The penalty clause - article 139 - is written at the top in four lines. Beneath it we can see the inscription of the Banque d’Algérie and "20 francs". The number "20" is written in Arabic numerals on each side of the vignette with "Tunisie" written horizontally over it in black. A seated artist decorating vase is depicted on the back of the note on the left, and a harvester is on the right. The penalty clause - article 139 - is written again in six lines in a circle a the bottom. The number "20" is written in Arabic numerals on each side of the vignette.
