Description:

This important painting depicts the official entrance of the Palais du Bardo as it was originally, with the escalier des lions and Mohamed Sadok Bey exiting the palace in official uniform, accompanied by Tunisian dignitaries, preceded by protocol officers and surrounded by the beylical guard. It shows the monumental escalier des lions with its archways and columns on the façade. We can also see its glorious white marble columns, capitals and ceramic panels decorating the walls and mounted on plaster and stucco (naqsh hadida). Through the entrance doors the black and white archways in an Andalusian style can be seen on the first floor.
