Palais du Bardo
This 1861 oil on canvas by B. de Moynier shows the Mohamed Sadok Pacha Bey in front of the throne in the great hall of the Palais du Bardo, his right hand on the Tunisian constitution (which he has just proclaimed), his left holding his sword. He is dressed in official uniform, with red trousers with a gold stripe and a short black coat with a gold belt and epaulets, in addition to the Nichan al-Amen medal and a green sash with a double red stripe. On his chest the Nichan al-Dam, the Légion d'Honneur and the Nichan al-Iftikhar (classe majeur) medals can be seen, as well as a Légion d'Honneur and Nichan al-Iftikhar on a sling. This painting is evidence of an active diplomatic relationship between the Palais du Bardo and the European chancelleries.
