Description:

This bowl with a bulging rim sits on a stand. The decoration is made of two layers of concentric patterns around a central circle, filled with winged motifs. These green and brown patterns are painted on a yellow background. Although this kind of bowl is usually used to serve couscous, in the town Nabeul, and particularly for the occasion of Islamic New Year, each child is presented with a methred bowl, filled with golden couscous, dried fruit, dates, a hard-boiled egg and sweets. This all surrounds a statuette made of sugar, moulded and coloured to resemble an animal (such as a rooster or a gazelle) or a figure, like a doll or cavalier.
