Egypt
In 1870 historian, numismatist and academician Mihail C. Șutu travelled to Egypt accompanied by his wife. They took a cruise on the Nile, visited Cairo, where he studied antique Egyptian units of measure for weight (one of his of domains of interest). A passionate collector, he purchased a series of Egyptian coins and antiquities, among which some vessels that are considered to be part of a funerary inventory and have been dated in the first phase of the Naqada culture (c. 3900–3300 BC).
