Description:

The participation in commercial exhibitions by the Vista Alegre Factory began in 1838, with the presentation of a glass and crystal collection in the Exhibition promoted by the Portuguese Industrial Society. In 1851 Vista Alegre took part in the Universal Exhibition, organized in London, and again in 1867 in Paris, having won the copper medal. In 1873 the factory received the Medal for Merit in the International Exhibition of Vienna, Austria. Universal Exhibitions represent in the 19th century an excellent medium for commercial and artistic exchanges, as well as a public stage for the competition between. This display arenas, with an international vocation, commercial exhibitions were ideal for the promotion of technical and artistic skills of European industries.
