Radovish Region – Yoruk Turks
The enclave of the Turkish Yoruk community in Macedonia living in the mountain villages of Dojran – Valandovo and Radovish – and the Shtip region is a genuine treasure of tangible and intangible heritage that adds to the diversity of traditional culture in Macedonia. In general terms, the traditional outfit of Yoruk women in Macedonia is distinguished with exceptional colouring and application of varied elements in all articles of clothing. This bridal attire preserves some of the traditions in clothing and embellishment of Yoruk women in Macedonia in the 19th century and the early 20th century. The tunic is made of white canvas and modestly decorated by embroidery of two short vertical strips above the lower hem.
