Klashna – thick woollen fabric adorned with balze, silver and gold-wrapped thread, silver string, sequins, beads and pompons of wool
V. Jedoarce, Dolni Polog
Analysis of the evolution path of traditional costumes in the Republic of Macedonia have shown apparent influences of the Old Slav, Old Balkan, Byzantine and Turkish-Oriental cultures. This piece of traditional overcoat is an exquisite example of the application of srma – gold and silver-wrapped thread used widely in the Oriental handicraft of decorating garments. A gornik is a sleeveless upper garment made of white broadcloth called klashna. It has false sleeves hanging on the back. They are actually strips of white broadcloth richly adorned with pompoms of fluffy red wool, silver thread braids, a silver twisted ribbon, red baize, a silver string, sequins and beads. The lower part of the back is decorated in the same manner. Its rims and seams are also decorated with red and black braids.
