Dolni Polog
This set of traditional clothing gives an overall picture of the universally recognized aesthetics displayed in the festive women’s outfits in Macedonia in the 19th century. Bridal costumes worn in the area of Dolni Polog were distinctive for the great number of varied garments they comprised. The costume, consisting of a fusta, a kind of undershirt; a bunda, a thicker undergarment; chemise; tunic; vest and other garments, was abundantly decorated with embroidery. It was also richly embellished with jewellery and accessorized with distinctive headdress. Even the headdress included more than one article: a fez made of red baize, a hair band called a votus adorned with strings of coins as well as a transparent silk scarf decorated with embroidery, fringes and sequins.
