Description:

Water fountains such as these were common in Ottoman government buildings in Lebanon, and were turned on whenever there was a meeting to prevent outsiders overhearing or eavesdropping. This marble fountain is octagonal in shape and is decorated with embossed semi-cylinders on each side. The exterior of the structure is decorated with a mosaic of black, white, beige and brown marble organised in geometric designs. A second, circular level of the fountain rests on this first octagonal structure.
