The items imported from Egypt were cotton, natron (a hydrous native sodium carbonate, used in chemical industry; Egypt had a rich deposit of it in Wadi el-Natrun), coffee, hides, fruit, copper and tamarind roots. The items exported to Egypt included wood and pieces of furniture, fruits and vegetables, butter, bricks and tiles, glass beads, lime, wine, cloth, medicaments, books, and various other products.
Memoria della Commissione nominata dalla Camera di Commercio ed arti di Venezia ed incaricata di dimostrare l’utilità derivante alla nazione dal progetto di legge presentato alla Camera dei deputati dal sig. ministro del lavori pubblici nella tornata dell’8 marzo 1869, e concernente la nuova convenzione colla Società anonima italiana di navigazione Adriatico-Orientale pel prolungamento sino a Venezia del servizio postale e commerciale marittimo tra l’Italia e l’Egitto.
