The two drums are part of the flourishing tradition of enamelled ceramic in Fez, in production since the Middle Ages. Cobalt blue and white decorations identify Fez products dating to the second half of the 19th century. The drums belong to the ethnographic collections of the Pigorini Museum founded between the 19th and the 20th century. The origins of scientific activity and conservation of Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico "Luigi Pigorini" in Rome, can be traced back to the foundation in 1875 of the "Royal National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography in Rome" within the buildings of the Roman College.
