The bride wears a tantur, a head ornament worn along with a white veil by the women from Antilibano. The photo belonging to Enrico H. Giglioli's collection was collected by the Florentine naturalist on his world travels in 1865 to 1868 as he advanced diplomatic and commercial affairs between the newborn Italian state and the other nations. The images seem to have been created spontaneously to show ethnocentric diversity. The ethnographic photographs in the Giglioli's collection are part of the historical archive of the Pigorini Museum and are important for the histories of anthropological science and photography. The origins of scientific activity and conservation of Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico "Luigi Pigorini" in Rome can be traced back to the 1875 foundation of the "Royal National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography in Rome" within the buildings of the Roman College.
