“Au Palais Arabe”, Rue de Rome, 3, Tunis, was once the most important shop in town for furniture and other household items. Eugenio Coen (born in Livorno in 1855, migrated to Tunis in 1885) and his brother Alfredo (born in Livorno in 1868 and migrated to Tunis in 1887) also ran a furniture factory that, in 1906, employed about 100 carpenters, cabinet makers and other workers, 80 per cent of whom were Italian.
