Description:

Cup decorated with a stripped band, floral motifs and in the centre a circular medallion with a basket of fruits. It was made in the workshops of Istanbul on the Asian side. The basket with the fruit motif is a known motif of the 18th century as for example in the decoration of the private chambers of sultan Ahmed III (1703–1730) at the Topkapi Palace, and on the fountains of Istanbul. Ottoman glass of the 19th century was developed in order to compete with the imported glass from Venice and Bohemia. The technique is European but the decoration Ottoman.
