The Marquis of Cerralbo (politician, historian, and collector of art and antiques) and his family visited Istanbul in 1889, and nowadays the Cerralbo Museum holds an interesting variety of pieces bought and collected as souvenirs from the family trip. When visiting a foreign country or city, being portraited by a famous photographer of studio was indispensable. In this case the photographers are the world-renowned Armenian Abdullah Frères, Photographes de S. M. I. le Sultan. This albumen portrait of Amelia del Valle y Serrano is delicate and quiet, with outstanding deep chocolate colour which reveals the quality of the photographic technique and the good condition of the object.
