Description:

This picture was taken in Tetouan during a trip of the painter Joaquín Sorolla and his friends to Morocco in 1919. Sorolla's family and friends were portrayed with local people, a highlight of which is the Moor Selam and other characters and exotic animals, such as the monkey. Especially interesting is her daughter Helena who appeared in a Moorish costume.
This travel appeared in the newspapers El Confidencial and ABC which also published this photograph.
This family trip brought back memories and objects. The painter's daughter, Helena, had their little Moorish corner on the stairs of the house which is now the Sorolla Museum. A table, a chest, tambourines, fabrics, jewellery were bought back as souvenirs.
