Description:

Child's kaftan with agremán (tape of braids used as adornment), done in fabric brocade of mauve colour. The brocade is decorated with flower medallions with centres of golden thread. The sleeves are short and straight. The edge of the sleeves and of the whole jacket is edged with dark blue silk tape. The front, sides and shoulders are edged in a golden agremán, which ends in a circle. The jacket is lined with white cotton fabric and edged by a red tape. This garment was probably worn by children in the circumcision ceremony ritual. The practice of circumcision in the Islamic world involved a ritual in which the children involved in the ceremony were richly dressed.
