Description:

50 piasters from the days of Khedive `Abbas Hilmi II. During this time, a collection of Ottoman coins made of silver and copper circulated, valued at one, five and ten piasters. They were minted in AH 1327 / AD 1909 and bore the name of the Ottoman Sultan Muhammad V. However, the most important monetary event took place in 1898, when Khedive `Abbas Hilmi II granted a franchise to Raphael Suares to establish the National Bank of Egypt. This franchise gave him the right to produce securities that were accepted to pay domanial money, and the right to cash this money as gold upon demand.
