About Museum of Islamic Art at the Pergamon Museum, State Museums, Berlin
Around 1900
The Bayt Lisbuna saw two major construction phases. The existing structures date from the 19th century (around 1810) and were remodelled after 1865 and 1872. This house of a Jewish family like many other houses of Muslim or Christian families underwent major changes in style and plan at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Several thousand private homes were adopted to the new modern style, with a radical change in techniques and forms of decoration. While still being a Damascene courtyard house these monuments of private taste became witness of a comprehensive urban change in the light of an entangled modernity.
