Description:

Rugs and carpets are an essential artwork category within the Islamic culture. In the late 19th century, Oriental carpets became collectible and valued art objects. The Museum of Islamic Art’s collection of carpets is one of the most important in the world. It was started in 1904 with the gift of 21 carpets from Wilhelm von Bode. The important carpet no 1 burned partially 1945 and was restored partially with fragments later. This specific artwork was created in the North West of Iran before the middle of the 16th century and shows an animated scene featuring animals and trees.
