Portrait of minister Sayed Ahmed Pasha Arabi (Urabi). In 1882, the war minister took power in Egypt and demanded an end to the financial control imposed by the UK and France. This led to an intervention by the British Navy under Admiral Seymour, who defeated the Egyptian army.
