History:

The construction of the first house of the Robev family was finished on the 15 April 1827 as witnessed by the inscription in Greek on the marbled flagstone. It was rebuilt in 1863–1864. Construction foreman Todor Petkov built the house from scratch. Konstantin Robev lived in the left part of the house and his brother Atanas Robev in the right one. The two families lived in the newly built house until 1900 when they moved to Bitola and used the house as a summer residence. At present this building houses the exhibition galleries of the Institute for Protection of Culture Monuments and Museum of Ohrid.

Description:

The house of the Robev family is one of the highlights of traditional urban architecture in Macedonia. It represents the best of the distinctive style of Ohrid architecture, as well as exquisite layout and interior decor. The house was listed as protected architectural heritage after the First World War. It is a three-storied house having been divided vertically into two parts (left and right), thus belonging to the type of brothers' house traditionally built in Macedonia in the 19th and 20th centuries. The distinctive features of this structure are protruding decks expanding the usable surface on the second and third stories. The most outstanding elements decorating the interior of the house are niches in the walls, as well as wood-carved ornaments applied in the rooms and on the ceilings.
