State Bank of Morocco
Rabat, Morocco
1906
Establishment of the State Bank of Morocco came about through an Act signed on 7 April 1906 at the Algeciras Conference by delegates from 12 European countries, the United States and Morocco. The bank was incorporated in February 1907 as a public limited company whose registered office was in Tangiers. Its capital was divided between the signatory countries, except the United States.
After the State Bank of Tangier was built, the Moroccan state set up a network of banks and subsequently moved the headquarters of the Central Bank to Rabat. The buildings for this banking network were built in a similar Arab-Andalusian style, in most cases in sandstone.
