History:

Petra's history goes back to prehistoric times, but its most famous monuments are from the Hellenistic and Nabataean periods. After the annexation of the Nabataean state by the Romans in 106 AD, Petra became part of the Roman Province of Arabia. The city continued to be important during the Late Antiquity and Islamic periods. Two fortresses were built in the vicinity of Petra during the Crusader period.

Description:

Petra is the crown jewel of Jordanian heritage. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1986. The most prominent monuments of Petra are the Siq, the Treasury, the Winged Lions Temple, the Great Temple, Qasr al-Bint Temple, the monastery, the theatre, the church with mosaic floors and many other monuments.
