History:

Saint Stephen's Cathedral (Mar Estephan) is a Maronite cathedral overlooking Batroun's harbour. It is notable for its size - being one of the biggest cathedrals in Lebanon - and its hybrid architectural style, combining a Byzanto-Roman style with Gothic influences. The cathedral was constructed in 1910 on the same site as an older church.

Description:

The cathedral's construction was supervised by its architect, the Italian Giuseppe Maggiore. It overlooks the fishing port and was mainly built with local Batroun sandstone. The plan consists of a main nave, and two wards facing east and west. It has three altars, and a painting of St. Stephen lies above the central altar.
