King Fu`ad I chose the palace of Fatma Ismail, the daughter of Khedive Ismail, to host the displays of the Agricultural Museum. The palace was chosen due to its location near the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture in the neighborhood of Dokki in Cairo.
The museum, which was first called "The Agricultural Museum of King Fu`ad I", was officially opened for the public on the 16th of January 1938 in a big ceremony that the king himself attended.
The museum of Ancient Egyptian Agriculture is the most interesting section of the Agricultural Museum and it contains the most valuable displays. Tourist groups must receive permission beforehand in order to visit this museum. It represents the first section of the development of agriculture in Egypt and it illustrates the history of Egyptian agriculture from the prehistoric period till the late Pharaonic period. The first floor of the museum of Ancient Egyptian Agriculture hosts all sorts of displays that illustrate how the ancient Egyptians cultivated their lands. The displays include ancient tools and equipment that were used in the days of the Pharaohs and descriptions of how the ancient Egyptians created these tools.
