This station first opened in 1911, connecting Tripoli to the Syrian city of Homs with a single track. It later became the terminus of the famous Orient Express line, operating in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The station was nationalized in 1920 during the French Mandate following its destruction by the Ottoman forces during World War I.
