National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions

Hosted at the Khedaoudj el Amia palace, built in 1570 and located in the lower Casbah.

The mission of the Museum is to make the rural and traditional heritage of Algeria known and accessible. The works kept at the museum concern daily life such as clothing, jewellery, carpets, pottery, basketwork, ceramics, embroidery, brassware, miniatures, furniture as well as several other exceptional pieces of Algerian crafts. In addition to ethnographic objects, the Museum maintains a photographic collection of more than 20,000 items, divided into old photographs and black and white photographs.
