Description:

Sheep husbandry has always been a traditional agricultural occupation in the Romanian lands. Shepherds spent summers in mountainous regions, where they found pastures for their flocks, and descended into lower valleys for the winter. Transhumance is still practiced in Romania. During the Ottoman sovereignty, one of Moldavia and Wallachia's economical obligations towards the Porte was to send sheep, but also sheep wool, cheese, meat and tallow in the Ottoman Empire.
