Description:

The National Museum of Qatar holds, in its collection, a fleet comprising of 14 dhows. The growing collection includes a variety of traditional dhows, with several models dating to the early 20th century, as well as more recent replicas of traditional vessels. Originating from Oman, Bahrayn, India and Qatar, among other places traditional dhows represented include jalbut (small to medium sized), shuw`i (medium sized, once used for fishing and coastal trade), sanbuq (largest type in the Arabian Gulf today) and baglah (traditional, deep-sea dhows once used for the long – haul transport of goods.)
