Description:

Gjorche Petrov (1865–1921) was a prominent member of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (VMRO). He was born in Prilep on 2 March 1865. He obtained his elementary education in his native town and attended gymnasium in present day Bulgaria. He worked as a teacher in several Macedonian towns. He worked out, together with Gotze Delchev, the Statute of VMRO. The aim of the organization clearly expressed in Article 1 of the Statute was attaining full political autonomy of Macedonia and the Adrianopole Region. The structure of the organization was also defined as consisting of village, regional and district committees and lead by the Central Committee. Becoming one of the leaders of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization he shared Gotze Delchev’s conviction that the uprising was not supposed to begin before all regions in Macedonia were fully prepared for it in terms of training of the troops and providing arms.
