Thick twill-weave woollen fabric decorated with braids
100 x 64 cm
Veles Region, Mijaks
A klashenik is a kind of over-garment in varying lengths and split on the front made of thick woollen broadcloth called klashna. This knee-length piece comes from the Veles Region. It is abundantly adorned with embroidery above the lower hem and at the breasts. Embroidery was an inevitable part of decorating the majority of Macedonian folk costumes. The exquisite, meticulously executed embroidery applied on this tunic makes it a real work of art.
