In 1891 Filippo Palizzi donated more than 300 paintings to the National Gallery of Modern Art of Rome in order to describe his entire career through his artworks. All of them are cited in the Chronological List of 1853, which includes 12 studies depicting exotic animals done in The Jardin des Plantes in Paris. The series is considered the preparatory base for the amazing painting Dopo il Diluvio. Uscita degli animali dall’Arca (After the Flood. The Animals Exiting the Ark), commissioned by King Vittorio Emanuele II for the Museum of Capodimonte and presented in 1867 at the Universal Exposition in Paris. Other animals, like the Indian ox, the antelope and the dromedary were depicted in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris with the same aim.
