Filippo Palizzi came from a numerous family and along with his three brothers, all painters, introduced in Italy a realistic style of painting which breaks away from academic tradition of religious, mythological or history painting. He depicts real landscapes, people and animals. Filippo Palizzi painted The view of Valletta from Forte Emanuele during his long travel through Moldavia, Turkey, Greece and Malta. In Naples he was the director of the Academy of Fine Art and also worked at the organisation of the schools of industrial arts.
