His collection, Voyage d’Égypte et de Nubie, was published posthumously in 1755, and was added to in 1795 by the inclusion of scientific commentaries by Louis Langlès (1763–1824), founder of the École Spéciale des Langues Orientales and curator of oriental manuscripts at the Bibliothèque Impériale. This new edition, a product of Europen "Egyptomania", introduced some splendid new illustrations. In this particular page, the artist has focused on traditional hydraulic machinery.
